Looking Chic in Sweats

Looking Chic in Sweats
The lazy wear go-to outfit consists of a pair of sweatpants, a tee shirt and a baseball cap. The look clearly tells the world that you are on your day off and would much rather not be bothered. Thus, the thought of looking chic in sweats seems paradoxical. Can the two even coexist?

For the fashion forward, the answer is yes! Being chic at all times is a priority. In doing so:

Embrace sweatpants as a style of comfort; not demise. Stop looking at sweats as the Lazy Man’s outfit. Any ensemble can have the lax feel if it is ill-fitting, poorly pieced together and/or dirty. Luckily, sweatpants have redeemed themselves into pieces that are quite stylish. Embracing these loose bottoms as a style of comfort is a great start. Once people stop deeming them outcast from their wardrobes, the fashion can begin.

Find a pair that fits. What usually deters a woman from wearing sweatpants is the stigma that they will look sloppy. The only time this happens is when they do not fit well. Find a pair of sweatpants that taper in at the ankles, making them more structured and flattering to one’s shape. Plus, these athletic bottoms can be paired with letterman or bomber jackets. The look is now upgraded to something sporty or preppy.

It is all in the accessory Caps usually goes hand in hand with a pair of sweatpants for whatever reason. Maximize this dynamic duo by investing in a black cap. These hats never go out of style, as they are classic, and black practically goes with everything. Jewelry is another option, whether they are hoop earrings, studs or statement chains. Adding this touch of sass elevates the look to one that is borderline upper casual. Who knew this upgrade was even possible? Now, it is time to focus on the feet.

Wear a clean pair of sneakers. This steps needs no further explanation. There is nothing worse on an outfit than filthy footwear.

Finalize the look with confidence. No matter what a girl has on, the style is not complete without swagger. Walk with your head upright, and a strut like no other. Remember, Looking good is feeling good.

The key to being fashionable in sweatpants is to treat them like any other piece of clothing. They may not be as upscale as vintage wear, per se. But, if a woman wants to feel as stylish in sweatpants as she would in a vintage dress, she would make the effort to look chic regardless.
